We obtain posterior distribution of equations of state (EOSs) across a broad range of density by imposing explicitly the constraints from precisely measured fundamental properties of finite nuclei, in combination with the experimental data from heavy-ion collisions and the astrophysical observations of radius, tidal deformability and minimum-maximum mass of neutron stars. The acquired EOSs exhibit a distinct global behavior compared to those usually obtained by imposing the finite nuclei constraints implicitly through empirical values of selected key parameters describing symmetric nuclear matter and symmetry energy in the vicinity of the saturation density. The explicit treatment of finite nuclei constraints yields softer EOSs at low densities which eventually become stiffer to meet the maximum mass criteria. The Kullback-Leibler divergence has been used to perform a quantitative comparison of the distributions of neutron star properties resulting from the EOSs obtained from implicit and explicit finite nuclei constraints.

The NLDs so obtained are then employed to determine the s-wave neutron resonance spacing (D$_0$) which is one of the crucial inputs for the predictions of astrophysical reaction rates. Though the considered nuclei are not neutron-rich, the contributions from cross-shell excitations to $pf$-shell are indispensable to explain the experimental data for D$_0$ which otherwise are significantly overestimated.

Charge radii of mirror nuclei are calculated by implementing pairing effects with the Hartree-Fock Bogoliubov approximation. Correlations between the difference of charge radii ($ΔR_{ch}$) and slope of nuclear symmetry energy (L) are examined for different mirror nuclei pairs of varying masses using 40 different Skyrme energy density functionals. $ΔR_{ch}-L $ correlations are found to be robust for the binding constraints imposed on density functionals. We observe that $ΔR_{ch}$ and $L$ show better correlations in relatively heavier pairs than those obtained in the lighter pairs. Our calculations impose a constraint on the slope of nuclear symmetry energy as -20 MeV $\leq L \leq$ 55 MeV with 68\% confidence band using available measurements on charge radii. This is a moderately soft symmetry energy, in contrast to stiff and soft symmetry energy indicated by PREX-II and CREX measurements of neutron skin thickness in $^{208}Pb$ and $^{48}Ca$, respectively. Our result is also in agreement with celestial constraints obtained from observational data for neutron stars.

The equations of state (EoSs) governing neutron star (NS) matter obtained for both non-relativistic and relativistic mean-field models are systematically confronted with a diverse set of terrestrial data and astrophysical observations within the Bayesian framework. The terrestrial data, spans from bulk properties of finite nuclei to the heavy-ion collisions, constrain the symmetric nuclear matter EoS and the symmetry energy up to twice the saturation density ($ρ_0$= 0.16 fm$^{-3}$). The astrophysical observations encompass the NS radius, the tidal deformability, and the lower bound on maximum mass. Three distinct posterior distributions of EoSs are generated by gradually updating the priors with different constraints: (i) only the maximum NS mass, (ii) incorporating additional terrestrial data, (iii) combining both the terrestrial data and astrophysical observations. These EoS distributions are then compared using the Kullback-Liebler divergence which highlights the significant constraints imposed on the EoSs by the currently available lower bound of NS maximum mass and terrestrial data. The remaining astrophysical observations marginally refine the EoS within the density range $\sim$ 2-3$ρ_0$. It is observed that the relativistic mean field model yields stiffer EoS around the saturation density, but predict smaller values of the speed of sound and proton fraction in the interior of massive stars.

We have attempted to mitigate the challenge of connecting the neutron star (NS) properties with the nuclear matter parameters that describe equations of state (EoSs). The efforts to correlate various neutron star properties with individual nuclear matter parameters have been inconclusive. A Principal Component Analysis is employed as a tool to uncover the connection between multiple nuclear matter parameters and the tidal deformability as well as the radius of neutron stars within the mass range of $1.2-1.8M_\odot$. The essential EOSs for neutron star matter at low densities have been derived using both uncorrelated uniform distributions and minimally constrained joint posterior distributions of nuclear matter parameters. For higher densities ($ρ> 0.32$fm$^{-3}$), the EOSs have been established through a suitable parameterization of the speed of sound, which consistently maintains causality and gradually approaches the conformal limit. Our analysis reveals that in order to account for over 90\% of the variability in NS properties, it is crucial to consider two or more principal components, emphasizing the significance of employing multivariate analysis. To explain the variability in tidal deformability needs a greater number of principal components compared to those for the radius at a given NS mass. The contributions from iso-vector nuclear matter parameters to the tidal deformability and radius of NS decrease by $\sim$ 25\% with the increase in mass of NS from 1.2$M_\odot$ to 1.8$M_\odot$.

The presence of heavy baryons, such as $Δ$-baryons and hyperons can significantly impact various properties of Neutron Stars (NSs), like oscillation frequencies, dimensionless tidal deformability, mass, and radii. We explored these effects within the Density-Dependent Relativistic Mean Field formalism. Our analysis considered $Δ$-admixed NS matter in both hypernuclear and hyperon-free scenarios, providing insights into particle compositions and their effects on NS properties. Our study of non-radial $f$-mode oscillations revealed a distinct increase in frequency due to the additional baryons. The degree of increase was significantly influenced by the meson-baryon coupling strengths. Notably, the coupling between $Δ$-resonances and $σ$-mesons played a highly influential role. In some cases, it led to an approximately 20\% increase in the $f$-mode oscillation frequency of canonical NSs. These couplings also affect other bulk properties of NSs, including mass, radii, and dimensionless tidal deformability ($Λ$). Comparing our results with available observational data from pulsars (NICER) and gravitational waves (LIGO-VIRGO collaboration), we found strong agreement, particularly concerning $Λ$.

Neutron stars (NSs) have traditionally been viewed as cold, zero-temperature entities. However, recent progress in computational methods and theoretical modelling has opened up the exploration of finite temperature effects, marking a novel research frontier. This study examines Proto-Neutron Stars (PNSs) using the BigApple parameter set to investigate their macroscopic properties. Two approaches are employed: one with constant temperatures (10-50 MeV) and the other fixing entropy per baryon (S) at predefined levels (S = 1 and S = 2). Notably, S remains constant with increasing baryon density due to electron-positron pair formation at finite temperatures. Analysis of PNS mass-radius profiles, considering neutrino trap** and temperature effects, reveals flattened curves and expanded radii with increasing temperature, resulting in slightly higher masses compared to zero temperature. The influence of lepton fraction ($Y_l$) on maximum PNS mass is explored, indicating that higher $Y_l$ values lead to a softer Equation of State (EoS), reducing maximum mass and increasing the canonical radius ($R_{1.4}$). Further investigation of a constant entropy EoS demonstrates that higher entropy is associated with increased maximum PNS masses and flatter mass-radius curves. Central temperature versus maximum mass relationships suggest a correlation between NS mass and temperature. Lastly, we investigate the behaviour of $f$-mode frequencies in PNS. It reveals that the frequency of these modes decreases with increasing entropy and temperature, reflecting complex thermodynamic interactions within the stars.

The generated parameter sets are in harmony with the finite and bulk nuclear matter properties.
A set of Equations of State (EOSs) composed of pure hadronic (nucleonic) matter and nucleonic with quark matter (hybrid EOSs) for superdense hadron-quark matter in β-equilibrium is obtained. The quark matter phase is calculated by using the three-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model. The maximum mass of a non-rotating neutron star with DOPS1 parameterization is found to be around 2.6 M$\odot$ for the pure nucleonic matter which satisfies the recent gravitational wave analysis of GW190814 Abbott et al.,(2020) with possible maximum mass constraint indicating that the secondary component of GW190814 could be a non-rotating heaviest neutron star composed of pure nucleonic matter. EOSs computed with the DOPS2 and DOPS3 parameterizations satisfy the X-Ray observational data and the recent observations of GW170817 maximum mass constraint of a stable non-rotating neutron star in the range 2.01 \pm 0.04 - 2.16 \pm 0.03 M\odot and also in good agreement with constraints on mass and radius measurement for PSR J0740+6620 (NICER) Riley et al., L27 (2021)}, Miller et al., (2021). The hybrid EOSs obtained with the NJL model also satisfy astrophysical constraints on the maximum mass of a neutron star from PSR J1614-2230 and Demorest et al., (2010) .We also present the results for dimensionless tidal deformability, $Λ$ which are consistent with the waveform models analysis of GW170817.

In the present work, we constrain the equation of the state of dense matter in the context of heaviest observed neutron star mass M$_{max}$ = 2.35$\pm 0.17$ M$_{\odot}$ for the black widow pulsar PSR J0952-0607. We propose three interactions HPU1, HPU2 and HPU3 (named after Himachal Pradesh University)for the relativistic mean field model which include different combinations of non-linear, self and cross-couplings among isoscalar-scalar $σ$, isoscalar-vector $ω$ and isovector-vector $ρ$ meson fields up to the quartic order. These interactions are in harmony with the finite nuclei and bulk nuclear matter properties. The equations of state computed by using newly generated interactions for the $β$-equilibrated nucleonic matter satisfy the heaviest observed neutron star mass M$_{max}$ = 2.35$\pm 0.17$ M$_{\odot}$ for the black widow pulsar PSR J0952-0607. The results for the radius ($R_{1.4}$) and dimensionless tidal deformability (${Λ_{1.4}}$) corresponding to the canonical mass are also presented and agree well with the GW170817 event and astrophysical observations. The radius of $2.08M_{\odot}$ neutron star mass is predicted to be in the range $R_{2.08}$ = 12.98 -13.09 Km which also satisfies the NICER observations by Miller et al. Background: The equations of state (EoSs) which determine the properties of neutron stars (NSs) are often characterized by the iso-scalar and iso-vector nuclear matter parameters (NMPs). Recent attempts to relate the radius and tidal deformability of a NS to the individual NMPs have been inconclusive. These properties display strong correlations with the pressure of NS matter which depends on several NMPs. The knowledge of minimal NMPs that determine the NS properties will be necessary to address any connection between NS properties (e.g., tidal deformability) and that of finite nuclei.
Purpose: To identify the important NMPs required to describe the tidal deformability of neutron star for astrophysically relevant range of their gravitational masses (1.2 -- 1.8 M$_\odot$) as encountered in the binary neutron star merger events.
Method: We construct a large set of EoSs using four iso-scalar and five iso-vector NMPs. These EOSs are employed to perform a systematic analysis to isolate the NMPs that predominantly determine the tidal deformability, over a wide range of NS mass. The tidal deformability is then directly mapped to these NMPs.
Results: The tidal deformability of the NS with mass 1.2-1.8 M$_\odot$ can be determined within 10$\%$ directly in terms of four nuclear matter parameters, namely, the incompressibility $K_0$ and skewness $Q_0$ of symmetric nuclear matter, and the slope $L_0$ and curvature parameter $K_{\rm sym,0}$ of symmetry energy.
Conclusion: A function that quickly estimates the value of tidal deformability in terms of minimal nuclear matter parameters is developed. Our method can also be extended to other NS observables.

Background: The density dependence of nuclear symmetry energy is crucial in determining several properties of finite nuclei to the neutron stars with mass $\sim$ 1.4 $M_\odot$. The values of neutron skin thickness, isovector giant dipole resonances energies and various nuclear reaction cross-sections in asymmetric nuclei have been utilized to determine the slope of symmetry energy ($L_0$) at the saturation density. Recent PREX-II and CREX measurements of neutron skin thickness in $^{208}$Pb and $^{48}$Ca nuclei yield very different values of $L_0$ which overlap marginally within 90$\%$ confidence interval.
Purpose: Our objective is to demonstrate the role of symmetry energy on the sub-barrier fusion cross-section and the astrophysical $S$-factor for asymmetric nuclei.
Method: The nucleus nucleus potentials are generated using the double folding model (DFM) for three different nucleon-nucleon interactions. These DFM potentials are used for the calculation of the sub-barrier fusion cross-section and the astrophysical $S$-factor. The nucleon densities required for DFM potentials are generated from different families of non-relativistic and relativistic mean-field models which correspond to a wide range of neutron skin thickness or $L_0$.
Results: We have calculated the sub-barrier fusion cross-section for several asymmetric nuclei involving O, Ca, Ni, and Sn isotopes. The results are presented for the barrier parameters, cross-section, and astrophysical $S$-factor for $^{54}$Ca+$^{54}$Ca and $^{124}$Sn+$^{124}$Sn as a function of neutron skin thickness.
Conclusions: The cross-section for the neutron-rich nuclei show a strong dependence on the behavior of symmetry energy or the neutron skin thickness. The increase in skin thickness lowers the height of the barrier as well as its width which enhances the values of the $S$-factor by more than an order of magnitude.

The impacts of various symmetry energy parameters on the properties of neutron stars (NSs) have been recently investigated, and the outcomes are at variance, as summarized in Table III of Phys. Rev. D 106, 063005 (2022). We have systematically analyzed the correlations of slope and curvature parameters of symmetry energy at the saturation density ($ρ_0=0.16 \text{fm}^{-3}$) with the tidal deformability and stellar radius of non-spinning neutron stars in the mass range of $1.2 - 1.6 M_\odot$ using a large set of minimally constrained equations of state (EoSs). The EoSs at low densities correspond to the nucleonic matter and are constrained by empirical ranges of a few low-order nuclear matter parameters from the finite nuclei data and the pure neutron matter EoS from chiral effective field theory. The EoSs at high densities ($ρ> 1.5 - 2ρ_0$) are obtained by a parametric form for the speed of sound that satisfies the causality condition. Several factors affecting the correlations between the NS properties and the individual symmetry energy parameters usually encountered in the literature are considered. These correlations are quite sensitive to the choice of the distributions of symmetry energy parameters and their interdependence. But, variations of NS properties with the pressure of $β-$ equilibrated matter at twice the saturation density remain quite robust which maybe due to the fact that the pressure depends on the combination of multiple nuclear matter parameters that describe the symmetric nuclear matter as well as the density dependence of the symmetry energy. Our results are practically insensitive to the behavior of EoS at high densities.

The effects of the isovector-scalar $δ$-meson field on the properties of finite nuclei, infinite nuclear matter and neutron stars are investigated within the Relativistic Mean Field (RMF) model which includes non-linear couplings. Several parameter sets (SRV's) are generated to asses the influence of $δ$-meson on the properties of neutron star. These parametrizations correspond to different values of coupling constant of $δ$-meson to the nucleons with remaining ones calibrated to yield finite nuclei and infinite nuclear matter properties consistent with the available experimental data. It is observed that to fit the properties of finite nuclei and infinite nuclear matter, a stronger coupling between isovector-vector $ρ$ meson and nucleons is required in the presence of $δ$ field. Furthermore, the $δ$-meson is found to affect the radius of canonical neutron star significantly. An ambitious goal of the astrophysical community is not only to constrain the equation of state (EOS) of neutron star (NS) matter by confronting it with astrophysics observations, but ultimately also to infer the NS composition. Nevertheless, the composition of the NS core is likely to remain uncertain unless we have an accurate determination of the nuclear symmetry energy at supra saturation density ($ρ>ρ_0$). We investigate how the nucleonic direct Urca (dUrca) processes can be used as an effective probe to constraint the high density nuclear symmetry energy. A large number of minimally constrained EOSs has been constructed by applying a Bayesian approach to study the correlations of the symmetry energy at different densities with a few selected properties of a NS. The nuclear symmetry energy above the baryon density 0.5 fm$^{-3}$ ($\sim 3 ρ_0$) is found to be strongly correlated with NS mass at which the onset of nucleonic dUrca neutrino cooling takes place in the core. This allows us to constrain the high density behavior of nuclear symmetry energy within narrow bounds. {The pure neutron matter pressure constraint from chiral effective field theory rules out the onset of nucleonic dUrca in stars with a mass $\lesssim$ 1.4 $M_\odot$.} The onset of dUrca inside 1.6 M$_\odot$ to 1.8 M$_\odot$ NS implies a slope of the symmetry energy $L$ at $\sim 2.5~ρ_0$, respectively, between 54 and 48 MeV.

We investigate the impact of the neutron-star matter equation of state on the $f$- and $p_1$-mode oscillations of neutron stars obtained within the Cowling approximation and linearized general relativity. The $f$- and $p_1$-mode oscillation frequencies, and their dam** times are calculated using representative sets of Skyrme Hartree-Fock and relativistic mean-field models, all of which reproduce nuclear systematics and support $2M_\odot$ neutron stars. Our study shows strong correlations between the frequencies of $f$- and $p_1$-modes and their dam** times with the pressure of $β$-equilibrated matter at densities equal to or slightly higher than the nuclear saturation density $ρ_0$. Such correlations are found to be almost independent of the composition of the stars. The frequency of the $p_1$-mode of $1.4M_\odot$ star is strongly correlated with the slope of the symmetry energy $L_0$ and $β$-equilibrated pressure at density $ρ_0$. Compared to GR calculations, the error in the Cowling approximation for the $f$-mode is about 30\% for neutron stars of low mass, whereas it decreases with increasing mass. The accuracy of the $p_1$-mode is better than 15\% for neutron stars of maximum mass, and improves for lower masses and higher number of radial nodes.

Realistic nuclear level densities (NLDs) obtained within the spectral distribution method (SDM) are employed to study nuclear processes of astrophysical interest. The merit of SDM lies in the fact that the NLDs corresponding to many body shell model Hamiltonian consisting of residual interaction can be obtained for the full configurational space without recourse to the exact diagnolization of huge matrices. We calculate NLDs and s-wave neutron resonance spacings which agree reasonably well with the available experimental data. By employing these NLDs, we compute reaction cross-sections and astrophysical reaction rates for radiative neutron capture in few Fe-group nuclei, and compare them with experimental data as well as with those obtained with NLDs from phenomenological and microscopic mean-field models. The results obtained for the NLDs from SDM are able to explain the experimental data quite well. These results are of particular importance since the configuration mixing through the residual interaction naturally accounts for the collective excitations. In the mean-field models, the collective effects are included through the vibrational and rotational enhancement factors and their NLDs are further normalized at low energies with neutron resonance data.

We apply Bayesian approach to construct a large number of minimally constrained equations of state (EOSs) and study their correlations with a few selected properties of a neutron star (NS). Our set of minimal constraints includes a few basic properties of saturated nuclear matter and low-density pure neutron matter EOS which is obtained from a precise next-to-next-to-next-to-leading-order (N$^{3}$LO) calculation in chiral effective field theory. The tidal deformability and radius of NS with mass $1-2 M_\odot$ are found to be strongly correlated with the pressure of $β$-equilibrated matter at densities higher than the saturation density ($ρ_0 = 0.16$ fm$^{-3}$) in a nearly model-independent manner. These correlations are employed to parametrize the pressure for $β$-equilibrated matter, around 2$ρ_0$, as a function of neutron star mass and the corresponding tidal deformability. The maximum mass of neutron star is also found to be strongly correlated with the pressure of $β$-equilibrated matter at densities $\sim 4.5ρ_0$.

The general behavior of the nuclear equation of state (EOS), relevant for the description of neutron stars (NS), is studied within a Bayesian approach applied to a set of models based on a density dependent relativistic mean field description of nuclear matter. The EOS is subjected to a minimal number of constraints based on nuclear saturation properties and the low density pure neutron matter EOS obtained from a precise next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N$^{3}$LO) calculation in chiral effective field theory ($χ$EFT). The posterior distributions of the model parameters obtained under these minimal constraints are employed to construct the distributions of various nuclear matter properties and NS properties such as radii, tidal deformabilites, central energy densities and speeds of sound etc. We found that 90% confidence interval (CI) for allowed NS mass - radius relationship and tidal deformabilites are compatible with GW170817 and recent NICER observations, without invoking the exotic degrees of freedom. A central speed-of-sound of the order of $\sqrt{2/3}$ $c$ is obtained. The maximum neutron star mass allowed by the model is 2.5 $M_\odot$.

We perform our analysis for a mass range $A=40$ to 180 using the NLDs from popularly used databases obtained with the single-particle energies from two different microsopic mass-models. These NLDs which include microscopic structural effects such as collective enhancement, pairing and shell corrections, do not exhibit inverted parabolic trend with a strong peak at $Z_{0}$ as predicted earlier. We also compute the NLDs using the single-particle energies from macroscopic-microscopic mass-model. Once the collective and pairing effects are ignored, the inverted parabolic trends of NLDs and the corresponding level density parameters become somewhat visible. Nevertheless, the factor that governs the $(Z-Z_{0})$ dependence of the level density parameter, leading to the inverted parabolic trend, is found to be smaller by an order of magnitude. We further find that the $(Z-Z_{0})$ dependence of NLDs is quite sensitive to the shell effects.

The nuclear matter parameters (NMPs), those underlie in the construction of the equation of state (EoS) of neutron star matter, are not directly accessible. The Bayesian approach is applied to reconstruct the posterior distributions of NMPs from the EoS of neutron star matter. The constraints on lower-order parameters as imposed by the finite nuclei observables are incorporated through appropriately chosen prior distributions. The calculations are performed with two sets of pseudo data on the EoS whose true models are known. The median values of second or higher order NMPs show sizeable deviations from their true values and associated uncertainties are also larger. The sources of these uncertainties are intrinsic in nature, identified as (i) the correlations among various NMPs and (ii) the variations in the EoS of symmetric nuclear matter, symmetry energy, and the neutron-proton asymmetry in such a way that the neutron star matter EoS remain almost unaffected.

End-to-end (E2E) spoken language understanding (SLU) systems can infer the semantics of a spoken utterance directly from an audio signal. However, training an E2E system remains a challenge, largely due to the scarcity of paired audio-semantics data. In this paper, we treat an E2E system as a multi-modal model, with audio and text functioning as its two modalities, and use a cross-modal latent space (CMLS) architecture, where a shared latent space is learned between the `acoustic' and `text' embeddings. We propose using different multi-modal losses to explicitly guide the acoustic embeddings to be closer to the text embeddings, obtained from a semantically powerful pre-trained BERT model. We train the CMLS model on two publicly available E2E datasets, across different cross-modal losses and show that our proposed triplet loss function achieves the best performance. It achieves a relative improvement of 1.4% and 4% respectively over an E2E model without a cross-modal space and a relative improvement of 0.7% and 1% over a previously published CMLS model using $L_2$ loss. The gains are higher for a smaller, more complicated E2E dataset, demonstrating the efficacy of using an efficient cross-modal loss function, especially when there is limited E2E training data available.

The chi-squared based covariance approach allows one to estimate the correlations among desired observables related to nuclear matter directly from a set of fit data without taking recourse to the distributions of the nuclear matter parameters (NMPs). Such an approach is applied to study the correlations of tidal deformability of neutron star with the slope and the curvature parameters of nuclear symmetry energy governed by an extensive set of fit data on the finite nuclei together with the maximum mass of the neutron star. The knowledge of the distributions of NMPs consistent with the fit data is implicitly inbuilt in the Hessian matrix which is central to this covariance approach. Comparing our results with those obtained with the explicit use of the distributions of NMPs, we show that the appropriate correlations among NMPs as induced by the fit data are instrumental in strengthening the correlations of the tidal deformability with the symmetry energy parameters, without it, the said correlations tend to disappear. The interplay between isoscalar and isovector NMPs is also emphasized.

The nuclear matter parameters define the nuclear equation of state (EoS), they appear as coefficients of expansion around the saturation density of symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter. We review their correlations with several properties of finite nuclei and of neutron stars within mean-field frameworks. The lower order nuclear matter parameters such as the binding energy per nucleon, incompressibility and the symmetry energy coefficients are found to be constrained in narrow limits through their strong ties with selective properties of finite nuclei. From the correlations of nuclear matter parameters with neutron star observables, we further review how precision knowledge of the radii and tidal deformability of neutron stars in the mass range $1 - 2 M_\odot$ may help cast them in narrower bounds. The higher order parameters such as the density slope and the curvature of the symmetry energy or the skewness of the symmetric nuclear matter EoS are, however, plagued with larger uncertainty. From inter-correlation of these higher order nuclear matter parameters with lower order ones, we explore how they can be brought to more harmonious bounds.

We present our concise notes for the lectures and tutorials on pairing, quasi-spin and seniority delivered at SERB school on Role of Symmetries in Nuclear Physics, AMITY University, $2019$. Starting with some generic features of residual nucleon-nucleon interactions, we provide detailed derivation of the matrix elements for the $δ$-interaction which is the basis for the standard pairing Hamiltonian. The eigen values for standard pairing Hamiltonian are then obtained within the quasi-spin formalism. The algebra involving quasi-spin operators is performed explicitly using the annihilation and creation operators for single nucleon together with the application of Wicks theorem. These techniques are expected to be helpful in deriving the mean-field equations for the $Hartree-Fock$, $Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer$ and $Hartree-Fock$ Bogoliubov theories.

We search for possible correlations between neutron star observables and thermodynamic quantities that characterize high density nuclear matter. We generate a set of model-independent equations of state describing stellar matter from a Taylor expansion around saturation density. Each equation of state which is a functional of the nuclear matter parameters is thermodynamically consistent, causal and compatible with astrophysical observations. We find that the neutron star tidal deformability and radius are strongly correlated with the pressure, the energy density and the sound velocity at different densities. Similar correlations are also exhibited by a large set of mean-field models based on non-relativistic and relativistic nuclear energy density functionals. These model independent correlations can be employed to constrain the equation of state at different densities above saturation from measurements of NS properties with multi-messenger observations. In particular, precise constraints on the radius of PSR J0030+0451 thanks to NICER observations would allow to better infer the properties of matter around two times the nuclear saturation density.

A systematic study of the central depletion of proton density has been performed in the isotonic chains of nuclei with neutron numbers $N = 20$ and $28$ using different variants of the relativistic mean-field (RMF) models. These models include either the non-linear contributions from the mesons with the coupling constants being density independent or the non-linearity of the mesonic fields realized through the density dependent coupling strengths. The central depletion in deformed nuclei tends to disappear irrespective of the occupancy of $2s_{1/2}$ state in contrast to the spherical nuclei in which the unoccupancy of $2s_{1/2}$ state leads to the central depletion. Due to the differences in the strength of spin-orbit potentials in these models, the central depletions are found to be model dependent. The influence of the central depletion on the neutron-skin thickness is also investigated. It appears that the effects of the central depletion do not percolate far enough to display its finger prints on the trends of the neutron-skin thickness.

It is found that suitably chosen experimental data on isoscalar and isovector modes of nuclear excitations together with the observed maximum neutron star mass constrain the EoS which displays a very good congruence with the GW170817 inspired one. The giant resonances in nuclei are found to be instrumental in limiting the tidal deformability parameter and the radius of neutron star in somewhat narrower bounds. At the 1$σ$ level, the values of the canonical tidal deformability $Λ_{1.4}$ and the neutron star radius $R_{1.4}$ come out to be $267\pm144$ and $11.6\pm1.0$ km, respectively.

Using an energy density functional (EDF) based on the thermodynamic Gibbs-Duhem relation, found equivalent to the standard Skyrme EDF for infinite nuclear matter, it is demonstrated that the parameters of this EDF are not uniquely determined from the fit of the empirical and theoretical data related to nuclear matter. This prevents an unambiguous determination of the nucleon effective mass ($\frac{m_0^*}{m}$) and its isovector splitting ($Δm_0^*$). Complementary information from dipole polarizability of atomic nuclei helps in removing this ambiguity and plausible values of $\frac{m_0^*}{m}$ and $Δm_0^*$ can be arrived at. Presently considered fit data on infinite nuclear matter and dipole polarizability of finite nuclei yield $\frac{m_0^*}{m} =0.68 \pm 0.04 $ and $Δm_0^* =(-0.20 \pm 0.09)δ$. This EDF is consistent with the constraint on the maximum mass of the neutron star.

The single particle and bulk properties of the neutron-rich nuclei constrain fundamental issues in nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics like the limits of existence of quantum many body systems (atomic nuclei), the equation of state of neutron-rich matter, neutron star, nucleosynthesis, evolution of stars, neutron star merging etc.. The state of the art of Coulomb breakup of the neutron-rich nuclei has been used to explore those properties. Unambiguous information on detailed components of the ground-state wave-function along with quantum numbers of the valence neutron of the nuclei have been obtained from the measurement of threshold strength along with the $γ$-rays spectra of the core following Coulomb breakup. The shape of this threshold strength is a finger-print of the quantum numbers of the nucleon. We investigated the ground-state properties of the neutron-rich Na, Mg, Al nuclei around N $\sim$ 20 using this method at GSI, Darmstadt. Very clear evidence has been observed for melting and merging of long cherished magic shell gaps at N = 20, 28. The evanescent neutron-rich nuclei imprint their existence in stellar explosive scenarios (r-process etc.). Coulomb dissociation (CD) is one of the important indirect measurements of the capture cross-section which may provide valuable input to the model for star evolution process, particularly the r-process.
Some valuable bulk properties of the neutron-rich nuclei like the density dependent symmetry energy, neutron skin etc. play a key role in understanding cosmic phenomena and these properties have been studied via electromagnetic excitation. Preliminary results of electromagnetic excitation of the neutron-rich nucleus, $^{32}$Mg are presented.

Motivated by the interrelationships found between the various symmetry energy elements of the energy density functionals (EDF) based on the Skyrme forces, possible correlations among them are explored. A total of 237 Skyrme EDFs are used for this purpose. As some of these EDFs yield values of a few nuclear observables far off from the present acceptable range, studies are done also with a subset of 162 EDFs that comply with a conservative set of constraints on the values of nuclear matter incompressibility coefficient, effective mass of the nucleon and the isovector splitting of effective nucleon masses to see the enhancement of the correlation strength, if any. The curvature parameter $K^0_{sym}$ and the skewness parameter $Q^0_{sym}$ of the symmetry energy are found to be very well correlated with the linear combination of the symmetry energy coefficient and its density derivative $L_0$ . The isovector splitting of the effective nucleon mass, however, displays a somewhat meaningful correlation with a linear combination of the symmetry energy, its slope and its curvature parameter.

The pre-scission particle multiplicities suggest a lifetime of 10 20 s for the nuclear fission to occur which is in contrast to the fission lifetime 10 18 s as predicted by atomic probe. This long standing ambiguity, arising due to the orders of magnitude differences among the fission lifetime measured from the nuclear and atomic probes, has been addressed within a dynamical model which includes the contributions from the nuclear shell effects. We show that, at lower excitation energies, these two probes decouples as the fissioning system survives for a long time without any particle evaporation. We also consider a wide range of reactions to study the impact of the excitation energy of compound nucleus on the fission dynamics in general. Our model predicts the average fission life time of superheavy nucleus 302 120, to be more than 10 18 s which is in reasonable agreement with the recent experiments.

Constraints set on key parameters of the nuclear matter equation of state (EoS) by the values of the tidal deformability, inferred from GW170817, are examined by using a diverse set of relativistic and non-relativistic mean field models. These models are consistent with bulk properties of finite nuclei as well as with the observed lower bound on the maximum mass of neutron star $\sim 2 ~ {\rm M}_\odot$. The tidal deformability shows a strong correlation with specific linear combinations of the isoscalar and isovector nuclear matter parameters associated with the EoS. Such correlations suggest that a precise value of the tidal deformability can put tight bounds on several EoS parameters, in particular, on the slope of the incompressibility and the curvature of the symmetry energy. The tidal deformability obtained from the GW170817 and its UV/optical/infrared counterpart sets the radius of a canonical $1.4~ {\rm M}_{\odot}$ neutron star to be $11.82\leqslant R_{1.4}\leqslant13.72$ km.

We carry out the study for finite nuclei, infinite nuclear matter and neutron star properties with the newly developed relativistic force named as the Institute Of Physics Bhubaneswar-I(IOPB-I).
Using this force, we calculate the binding energies, charge radii and neutron skin thickness for some selected nuclei. From the ground state properties of superheavy element i.e. Z=120, it is noticed that considerable shell gaps appear at neutron numbers N=172, 184 and 198, showing the magicity of these numbers. The low density behavior of the equation of state for pure neutron matter is compatible with other microscopic models. Along with the nuclear symmetry energy, its slope and curvature parameters at the saturation density are consistent with those extracted from various experimental data. We calculate the neutron star properties with the equation of state composed of nucleons and leptons in $\it beta-equilibrium$ which are in good agreement with the X-ray observations by Steiner and Nättilä. We find that the maximum mass of the neutron star to be 2.15$M_{\odot}$ and stellar radius 11.936 km . Moreover, the radius and tidal deformability of a {\it canonical} neutron star mass 1.4$M_\odot$ come out to be 13.242 km and 3.910$\times$10$^{36}$ g cm$^2$ s$^2$ respectively within this parameter set.

Relations between the nuclear symmetry energy coefficient and its density derivatives are derived. The relations hold for a class of interactions with quadratic momentum dependence and a power-law density dependence. The structural connection between the different symmetry energy elements as obtained seems to be followed by almost all reasonable nuclear energy density functionals, both relativistic and non-relativistic, suggesting a universality in the correlation structure. This, coupled with known values of some well-accepted constants related to nuclear matter, helps in constraining values of different density derivatives of the nuclear symmetry energy shedding light on the isovector part of the nuclear interaction.

The spinodal instabilities in hot asymmetric nuclear matter and some important critical parameters derived thereof are studied using six different families of relativistic mean-field (RMF) models. The slopes of the symmetry energy coefficient vary over a wide range within each family. The critical densities and proton fractions are more sensitive to the symmetry energy slope parameter at temperatures much below its critical value ($T_c\sim$14-16 MeV). The spread in the critical proton fraction at a given symmetry energy slope parameter is noticeably larger near $T_c$, indicating that the warm equation of state of asymmetric nuclear matter at sub-saturation densities is not sufficiently constrained. The distillation effects are sensitive to the density dependence of the symmetry energy at low temperatures which tend to wash out with increasing temperature.

In the framework of an equation of state (EoS) constructed from a momentum and density-dependent finite-range two-body effective interaction, the quantitative magnitudes of the different symmetry elements of infinite nuclear matter are explored. The parameters of this interaction are determined from well-accepted characteristic constants associated with homogeneous nuclear matter. The symmetry energy coefficient $a_2$, its density slope $L_0$, the symmetry incompressibility $K_δ$ as well as the density dependent incompressibility $K(ρ)$ evaluated with this EoS are seen to be in good harmony with those obtained from other diverse perspectives. The higher order symmetry energy coefficients $a_4,~a_6$ etc are seen to be not very significant in the domain of densities relevant to finite nuclei, but gradually build up at supra-normal densities. The analysis carried with a Skyrme-inspired energy density functional obtained with the same input values for the empirical bulk data associated with nuclear matter yields nearly the same results.

The structure effects of the fission fragments on their yields are studied within the statical theory with the inputs, like, excitation energies and level density parameters for the fission fragments at a given temperature calculated using the temperature dependent relativistic mean field formalism (TRMF). For the comparison, the results are also obtained using the finite range droplet model. At temperatures $T =1-2$ MeV, the structural effects of the fission fragments influence their yields. It is also seen that at $T = $ 3 MeV, the fragments become spherical and the fragments distribution peaks at a close shell or near close shell nucleus.

For the first time, we apply the temperature dependent relativistic mean field (TRMF) model to study the ternary fission of heavy nucleus using level density approach. The probability of yields of a particular fragment is obtained by evaluating the convolution integrals which employ the excitation energy and the level density parameter for a given temperature calculated within the TRMF formalism. To illustrate, we have considered the ternary fissions in 252Cf, 242Pu and 236U with fixed third fragment A3 = 48Ca, 20O and 16O respectively. The relative yields are studied for the temperatures T = 1, 2 and 3 MeV. For the comparison, the relative yields are also calculated from the single particle energies of the finite range droplet model (FRDM). In general, the larger phase space for the ternary fragmentation is observed indicating that such fragmentations are most probable ones. For T = 2 and 3 MeV, the Sn + Ni + Ca is the most probable combination for the nucleus 252Cf. However, for the nuclei 242Pu and 236U, the maximum fragmentation yields at T = 2 MeV differ from those at T = 3 MeV. For T = 3 MeV, the closed shell (Z = 8) light mass fragments with its corresponding partners has larger yield values. But, at T = 2 MeV Si/P/S are favorable fragments with the corresponding partners. It is noticed that the symmetric binary fragmentation along with the fixed third fragment for 242Pu and 236U are also favored at T = 1 MeV. The temperature dependence of the nuclear shape and the single particle energies are also discussed.

We examine the correlations of neutron star radii with the nuclear matter incompressibility, symmetry energy, and their slopes, which are the key parameters of the equation of state (EoS) of asymmetric nuclear matter. The neutron star radii and the EoS parameters are evaluated using a representative set of 24 Skyrme-type effective forces and 18 relativistic mean field models, and two microscopic calculations, all describing 2$M_\odot$ neutron stars. Unified EoSs for the inner-crust-core region have been built for all the phenomenological models, both relativistic and non-relativistic. Our investigation shows the existence of a strong correlation of the neutron star radii with the linear combination of the slopes of the nuclear matter incompressibility and the symmetry energy coefficients at the saturation density. Such correlations are found to be almost independent of the neutron star mass in the range $0.6\text{-}1.8M_{\odot}$. This correlation can be linked to the empirical relation existing between the star radius and the pressure at a nucleonic density between one and two times saturation density, and the dependence of the pressure on the nuclear matter incompressibility, its slope and the symmetry energy slope. The slopes of the nuclear matter incompressibility and the symmetry energy coefficients as estimated from the finite nuclei data yield the radius of a $1.4M_{\odot}$ neutron star in the range $11.09\text{-}12.86$ km.

The model dependence in the correlations of the neutron-skin thickness in heavy nuclei with various symmetry energy parameters is analyzed by using several families of systematically varied microscopic mean field models. Such correlations show a varying degree of model dependence once the results for all the different families are combined. Some mean field models associated with similar values of the symmetry energy slope parameter at saturation density $L$, and pertaining to different families, yield a greater-than-expected spread in the neutron-skin thickness of the $^{208}$Pb nucleus. The effective value of the symmetry energy slope parameter $L_{\rm eff}$, determined by using the nucleon density profiles of the finite nucleus and the density derivative $S^\prime(ρ)$ of the symmetry energy starting from about saturation density up to low densities typical of the surface of nuclei, seems to account for the spread in the neutron-skin thickness for the models with similar $L$. The differences in the values of $L_{\rm eff}$ are mainly due to the small differences in the nucleon density distributions of heavy nuclei in the surface region and the behavior of the symmetry energy at subsaturation densities.

The correlations of the crust-core transition density and pressure in neutron stars with the slope of the symmetry energy and the neutron skin thickness are investigated, using different families of relativistic mean field parametrizations with constant couplings and non-linear terms mixing the $σ$, $ω$ and $ρ$-meson fields. It is shown that the modification of the density dependence of the symmetry energy, involving the $σ$ or the $ω$ meson, gives rise to different behaviors: the effect of the $ω$-meson may also be reproduced within non-relativistic phenomenological models, while the effect of the $σ$-meson is essentially relativistic. Depending on the parametrization with $σ-ρ$ or $ω-ρ$ mixing terms, different values of the slope of the symmetry energy at saturation must be considered in order to obtain a neutron matter equation of state compatible with results from chiral effective field theory. This difference leads to different pressures at the crust-core transition density. A linear correlation between the transition density and the symmetry energy slope or the neutron skin thickness of the $^{208}$Pb nucleus is obtained, only when the $ω$-meson is used to describe the density dependence of the symmetry energy. A comparison is made between the crust-core transition properties of neutron stars obtained by three different methods, the Relativistic Random Phase Approximation (RRPA), the Vlasov equation and Thermodynamical method. It is shown that the RRPA and the Vlasov methods predict similar transition densities for $pne$ $β$-equilibrium stellar matter.

Pairing reentrance phenomenon in the warm rotating $^{104}$Pd nucleus is studied within the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS)-based approach (the FTBCS1). The theory takes into account the effect of quasiparticle number fluctuations on the pairing field at finite temperature and angular momentum within the pairing model plus noncollective rotation along the symmetry axis. The numerical calculations for the pairing gaps and nuclear level densities (NLD), of which an anomalous enhancement has been experimentally observed at low excitation energy $E^*$ and high angular momentum $J$, show that the pairing reentrance is seen in the behavior of pairing gap obtained within the FTBCS1 at low $E$ and high $J$. This leads to the enhancement of the FTBCS1 level densities, in good agreement with the experimental observation. This agreement indicates that the observed enhancement of the NLD might be the first experimental detection of the pairing reentrance in a finite nucleus.
