The paper describes the MAGIC multi-mode focal reducer (Monitoring of Active Galaxies by Investigation of their Cores), commissioned on the 1-m Zeiss-1000 telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences in September 2020. Three observational modes are currently realised: photometry, polarimetry, and long-slit spectroscopy. Reducing the focal length makes it possible to obtain a sufficiently large field of view for photometry and a large slit height for spectroscopy of $\sim$12$'$, as well as a large field of view for polarimetry with a quadrupole Wollaston prism of $\sim$6$'$.4. This feature makes the complex study of extended nebulae and galaxies efficient. The MAGIC capabilities are presented in examples of observations of various astronomical objects. The spectral mode in the range of 4000-7200 AA provides the spectral resolution $R \sim$ 1000; for a starlike target up to 14 mag in medium-band filters with a seeing of 1$''$ for 20 minutes of total exposure, the photometry accuracy is better than 0.01 mag and the polarization accuracy is better than 0.6%. Especially for the new focal reducer, an offset guide and a position angle rotation system were implemented. The results of the modernization of the baffle system in the optical scheme of the telescope for the suppression of scattered light are also described.

Using our and other available in literature data, we found that the maximum degree of linear polarization of Phaethon in the V band is 45% at the phase angle 124 deg. Using the dependence (polarimetric slope-albedo) we have found the geometric albedo of asteroid Phaethon to be 0.06. This value falls into the lower range of albedo values for asteroids determined by different methods. The mean color indices U-B=0.207 and B-V=0.639 of the asteroid are derived at heliocentric and geocentric distances 1.077 au and 0.102 au, respectively. The effective diameter of Phaethon is estimated from obtained absolute magnitude and geometrical albedo, it is equal to 6.8 km. The best fit to the observed polarimetric data was obtained with the Sh-matrix model of conjugated random Gaussian particles composed of Mg-rich silicate (90%) and amorphous carbon (10%).

This paper is devoted to the memory of Dr. Victor Afanasiev and his immense legacy. The report highlights the capabilities of two new instruments tested at the 1-meter Zeiss-1000 telescope of SAO RAS: the Stokes Polarimeter (StoP) and the MAGIC focal reducer. Optimized for the study of active galactic nuclei (AGN), methodically, these instruments are suitable for a wide range of small telescope tasks. The fields of view of StoP and MAGIC are 6' and 13' for direct images, respectively. The StoP device allows one to conduct photometric observations and polarimetric ones with a double Wollaston prism; the spectral mode was added to MAGIC. For a starlike target up to 14 mag in medium-band filters with a seeing of 1" for 20 minutes of total exposure, the photometry accuracy is better than 0.01 mag and the polarization accuracy is better than 0.6%. The available spectral range obtained with the volume phase holographic grating in MAGIC is 4000-7200AA with a dispersion of 2A/px. StoP and MAGIC received the first light in 2020 and are used in test mode at the Zeiss-1000. The report discusses the first results obtained by the authors with new instruments, as well as further prospects

The quasar Main Sequence (MS) appears to be an incredibly powerful tool to organize the diversity in large samples of type-1 quasars but the most important physical parameters governing it are still unclear. Here we investigate the origin of the broadening and of a defining feature of Population B sources: a strong redward asymmetry of the Balmer emission lines. We focus on a prototypical source, Fairall 9. Spectropolarimetric data of the Fairall 9 broad H$β$ and H$α$ profiles allowed for a view of the geometric and dynamical complexity of the line emitting regions. Measurements (1) provided evidence of rotational motion; (2) were helpful to test the presence of polar and equatorial scatterers, and their association with non-virial motions.

We present new spectroscopic and polarimetric observations of the first discovered gravitational lens Q0957+561 obtained with the 6m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory (SAO, Russia). We explore spectropolarimetric parameters of Q0957+561 A,B components to investigate the innermost structure of the quasar, and explore the nature of polarization in lensed quasars. Additionally, we compare their present-day spectral characteristics with previous observations in order to study long-term spectral changes. We analyze spectral characteristics of lensed quasar comparing spectra of A and B images, as well as comparing previously observed image spectra with present-day ones. The polarization parameters of A-B images are compared. We also model the macro-lens influence on the polarization of the images representing the gravitational lens with a singular isothermal elliptical potential.
We find that the brightness and SED ratio of components A and B changed during a long period. Polarization in broad lines of components A and B showed that the equatorial scattering cannot be detected in this quasar. We find wavelength-dependent polarization that may be explained as a combination of the polarization from the disc and outflowing material. There is a significant difference between polarization parameters of the A and B images: the B component shows a higher polarization degree and polarization angle. However, both polarization vectors are nearly perpendicular to the observed radio jet projection. It indicates that the polarization in the continuum is coming from the accretion disc. Our simple lensing model of a polarized source showed that macro-lens can cause the observed differences in polarization parameters of Q0957+561 A,B images. Using Mg II broad line and luminosity of component A we estimated that the Q0957+561 black hole mass is M~(4.8-6.1) $10^8$ M$\odot$

The images obtained through BVR filters showed a bright, dust coma, indicating a high level of activity. We estimated a colour index and a colour excess for the comet. The parameter Af\r{ho}, which is used as an indicator of a cometary activity, was measured to be 2584 cm in the reference optical aperture of \r{ho}=10^4 km. The dust production constituted 33 kg/s and 9.3*10^3 kg/s, it was obtained using different methods. We also investigated the morphology of the comet using image enhancement techniques and found two jets in the coma.

We present an analysis of the results of photometric investigations of two distant comets, C/2002 VQ94 (LINEAR) and 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 1, obtained with the 6m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The comets under study demonstrate sufficient activity out of the zone of water ice sublimation (at heliocentric distances longer than 5 AU). In the spectra of the investigated comets, we found the CO+ and N2+ emission. The presence of this emission may say that the comets were formed in the outer parts of the Solar System, in a protoplanetary cloud at a temperature <=25 K. We found that the photometric maximum of the ionosphere (in the CO+ filter) of the comet C/2002 VQ94 (LINEAR) is shifted relative to the photometric center of the dust coma by 1.4 arcsec (7.44*10^3 km) in the direction deflected by 63 deg from the direction to the Sun. Using special filters to process the images, we picked out active structures (jets) in the dust coma of the 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 1 comet.

The CCD images of the comet were obtained in wideband R filters at the 6m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SAO RAS) and at the 2m telescope of the Peak Terskol Observatory. The processing of the images with special digital filters allowed the active structures (jets) to be distinguished in the dust coma of the comet. With the cross correlation method, the rotation period of the cometary nucleus was determined as 12.1 and 11.7 days for the observations taken in December 2008, and February 2009, respectively. The probable causes of the difference in the estimates of the rotation period of the cometary nucleus obtained by differen authors are discussed.

For type-1 active galactic nuclei (AGNs) for which the equatorial scattering is the dominant broad line polarization mechanism, it is possible to measure the supermassive black hole mass by tracing the Keplerian motion across the polarization plane positionangle. So far this method has been used for 30 objects but only for H$α$ emission line. We explore the possibilities this method for determining SMBH masses using polarization in broad emission lines by applying it for the first time to Mg II$λ$2798AA spectral line. We use 3D Monte Carlo radiative transfer code stokes for simultaneous modeling of equatorial scattering of H$α$, H$β$ and Mg II lines. We included vertical inflows and outflows in the MgII broad line region (BLR). We find that polarization states of H$α$ and H$β$ lines are almost identical and SMBH mass estimates differ by 7%. For Mg II line, we find that polarization angle ${\varphi}$ exhibits an additional "plateau" with a constant ${\varphi}$, which deviates than the profiles expected for pure Keplerian motion. SMBH mass estimates using Mg II line are higher by up to 35% than those obtained from H$α$ and H$β$ lines. Our model shows that for vertical inflows and outflows in the BLR that is higher or comparable to Keplerian velocity, this method can be applied as a first approximation for obtaining SMBH mass.

Here we give an observational method for measurements of the equatorial scattering region radius using variability in the polarized broad lines in Type 1 active galactic nuclei (AGNs). The polarization in broad lines of Type 1 AGNs is mostly caused by equatorial scattering, where specific features allow one to separate its contribution from the total polarized flux. We propose to monitor variability in the polarized line flux and find the time lag between the nonpolarized continuum and polarized broad line variability. The distance to the scattering screen can then be determined from the time delay. The method was, for the first time, applied to the observations of the Type 1 AGN Mrk 6, and we found that the size of the scattering region in this AGN is around 100 light days. That is significantly smaller than the dusty region size estimated by the infrared interferometric observations and also larger than known broad line region (BLR) size. This indicates that the scattering region lies between the BLR and the dusty region and could be used as a probe of the dust sublimation radius.

We present new spectroscopic and polarimetric observations of the gravitational lens SDSS J1004+4112 taken with the 6m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory (SAO, Russia). In order to explain the variability that is observed only in the blue wing of the C IV emission line, corresponding to image A, we analyze the spectroscopy and polarimetry of the four images of the lensed system. Spectra of the four images were taken in 2007, 2008, and 2018, and polarization was measured in the period 2014-2017. Additionally, we modeled the microlensing effect in the polarized light, assuming that the source of polarization is the equatorial scattering in the inner part of the torus. We find that a blue enhancement in the CIV line wings affects component A in all three epochs. We also find that the UV continuum of component D was amplified in the period 2007-2008, and that the red wings of CIII] and CIV appear brighter in D than in the other three components. We report significant changes in the polarization parameters of image D, which can be explained by microlensing. Our simulations of microlensing of an equatorial scattering region in the dusty torus can qualitatively explain the observed changes in the polarization degree and angle of image D. We do not detect significant variability in the polarization parameters of the other images (A, B, and C), although the averaged values of the polarization degree and angle are different for the different images. Microlensing of a broad line region model including a compact outflowing component can qualitatively explain the CIV blue wing enhancement (and variation) in component A. However, to confirmed this hypothesis, we need additional spectroscopic observation in future.

Here we present the long-term optical spectral monitoring of a changing-look active galactic nuclei (AGN) NGC 3516 that covers 22 years (from 1996 to 2018). We explore a variability in the broad lines and continuum, finding that the continuum is changing by more than a factor of 2, while the broad lines are varying by more than a factor of 10. The minimum of activity is observed in 2014, when the broad lines almost disappeared. We confirm that NGC 3516 is a changing-look AGN, and the absorption seen in the UV and X-ray may indicate that there is an obscuring region which is responsible for this.
The line profiles are also changing. The mean profiles of the broad Halpha and Hbeta lines show shoulder-like structure in the wings, and enhanced peak, that may indicate a complex BLR. The rms-profiles of both lines seem to have the same shape and width of around 4200 km/s, indicating practically the same kinematics in the Halpha and Hbeta emitting regions.
Measured time-lags between the continuum and Halpha and Hbeta broad-line variability are ~15 and 17 days, respectively, that in combination with the broad lines width allows us to estimate the NGC 3516 central black hole mass. We find that the black hole mass is 4.73+-1.40 x 10^7M_sun which is in agreement with previous estimates.

The observations have been performed with the 6-meter telescope of SAO RAS using the modified SCORPIO-2 spectropolarimeter. We measured the Stokes parameters for the continuum and the broad H$α$ line and obtained the values of polarization degree and the angle of polarization. We found that equatorial scattering is dominant polarization mechanism in the sample, that allows us to use the observed polarization in the broad lines for determination of the central black hole (BH) masses and characteristics (the inclination and emissivity) of the Broad Line Region (BLR). We demonstrated that the recently proposed method of \cite{ap15} for BH mass measurement gives accurate BH masses which are in a good correlation with the stellar velocity dispersion, and consequently the masses determined by the polarization method can be used with calibration purposes. Additionally we found that the BLR in the sample of 30 AGN has an averaged inclination of $35^\circ\pm9^\circ$ (mostly between 20 and 40 degrees) and emissivity $α\sim -0.57$ that is more flat than one expected for the classical accretion disc $α\sim -0.75$.

The bright radio source S5 0716+714, that is usually classified as BL Lac object, is one of the most intensively studied. S5 0716+714 demonstrates extremely peculiar properties such as the shortest time-scale of optical and polarimetric variations observed in blazars. In given paper, the results of 9-hour polarimetric monitoring of S5 0716+714 with the $\sim$70-second resolution, carried out by the 6-m telescope BTA of SAO RAS, are presented. The observation data analysis reveals the variability both in total and polarized light on the 1-1.5-hour time-scale. Since polarization is generated by plasma motion in the magnetic field, the variations of polarization vector are bounded with the magnetic field configuration and the average time-scales specify the size of the emitting region, unresolved directly. We suggest a processed numerically model of polarization in the jet with the precessing helical magnetic field. Fitting the model discovers that observed short-term variations with the complicated trajectory of polarization vector could be induced by the magnetic field precession with the period $T \approx 15$ days.

We describe the scheme and design features of the new IFU unit (Integral Field Unit) meant to perform integral-field spectroscopy as a part of SCORPIO-2 focal reducer, which is mounted in the prime focus of the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The design of the unit is based on the principle of the formation of array spectra using a lens raster combined with optical fibers. The unit uses a rectangular raster consisting of 22x22 square 2-mm diameter lenses. The image of the object is transferred by an optical system with a 23x magnification from the focal plane of the telescope to the plane of the lens raster. The image scale is 0.75"/lens and the field of view of the instrument has the size of 16.5"x16.5". The raster also contains two extra 2x7 lens arrays to acquire the night-sky spectra whose images are offset by $\pm$3' from the center. Optical fibers are used to transform micropupil images into two pseudoslits located at the IFU collimator entrance. When operating in the IFU mode a set of volume phase holographic gratings (VPHG) provides a spectral range of 4600-7300 Å and a resolution $λ/δλ$ of 1040 to 2800. The quantum efficiency of SCORPIO-2 field spectroscopy is 6-13% depending on the grating employed. We describe the technique of data acquisition and reduction using IFU unit and report the results of test observations of the Seyfert galaxy Mrk 78 performed on the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

We present a new method for supermassive black hole (SMBH) mass measurements in Type 1 active galactic nuclei (AGN) using polarization angle across broad lines. This method gives measured masses which are in a good agreement with reverberation estimates. Additionally, we explore the possibilities and limits of this method using the STOKES radiative transfer code taking a dominant Keplerian motion in the broad line region (BLR). We found that this method can be used for the direct SMBH mass estimation in the cases when in addition to the Kepler motion, radial inflows or vertical outflows are present in the BLR. Some advantages of the method are discussed.

We present the results of optical long-slit spectral observations of interacting system Arp305 carried out at the 6m telescope BTA at the SAO RAS: the radial variation of gas kinematics and oxygen abundance. This study continues the series of spectral observations of tidal debris in the interacting galaxies. Here we pay special attention to the star-forming region between the interacting galaxies - a tidal dwarf galaxy (TDG) candidate. This star-forming system appears to be gravitationally bound or close to this condition. We show that TDG is metal poor in comparison to the parental galaxy. It can indicate that either the origin of star-forming gas of TDG was very far from the centre of parent galaxy or its gas has been diluted by the accretion of metal poor intergalactic gas. Nevertheless the region of the brightest emission clump in TDG where a current star formation takes place reveals a noticeable colour excess evidencing a local gas concentration. We pay attention that TDG is situated in the region of intersection of two gas flows and is in a process of formation probably caused by the collision of these flows. Low velocity difference between TDG, NGC 4017 and the gaseous bridge between them evidences that the lifetime of TDG is restricted by the time of its fall back onto the parent galaxy.

The innermost regions in active galactic nuclei (AGNs) were not being spatially resolved so far but spectropolarimetry can provide us insight about their hidden physics and the geometry. From spectropolarimetric observations in broad emission lines and assuming equatorial scattering as a dominant polarization mechanism, it is possible to estimate the mass of supermassive black holes (SMBHs). We explore the possibilities and limits and to put constraints on the usage of the method for determining SMBH masses using polarization in broad emission lines by providing more in-depth theoretical modeling. Methods. We use the Monte Carlo radiative transfer code STOKES for exploring polarization of Type 1 AGNs. We model equatorial scattering using flared-disk geometry for a set of different SMBH masses assuming Thomson scattering. In addition to the Keplerian motion in the BLR, we also consider cases of additional radial inflows and vertical outflows. We model the profiles of polarization plane position angle, degree of polarization and total unpolarized line for different BLR geometries and different SMBH masses. Our modeling confirms that the method can be widely used for Type-1 AGNs when viewing inclinations are between 25 and 45 degrees. We show that the distance between the BLR and scattering region (SR) has a significant impact on the mass estimates and the best mass estimates are when the SR is situated at the distance 1.5-2.5 times larger than the outer BLR radius. Our models show that if Keplerian motion can be traced through the polarized line profile, then the direct estimation of the mass of the SMBH can be performed. When radial inflows or vertical outflows are present in the BLR, this method can be applied if velocities of the inflow/outflow are less than 500 km/s. We find that models for NGC4051, NGC4151, 3C273 and PG0844+349 are in good agreements with observations.

We describe a device (adapter) for off-axis guiding and photometric calibration of wide-angle spectrographs operating in the prime focus of the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences. To compensate coma in off-axis star images an achromatic lens corrector is used, which ensures maintaining image quality (FWHM) at a level of about 1'' within 15' from the optical axis. The device has two 54'-diameter movable guiding fields, which can move in 10' x 4'.5 rectangular areas. The device can perform automatic search for guiding stars, use them to control the variations of atmospheric transmittance, and focus the telescope during exposure. The limiting magnitude of potential guiding stars is mR ~17 mag. The calibration path whose optical arrangement meets the telecentrism condition allows the spectrograph to be illuminated both by a source of line spectrum (a He-Ne-Ar filled lamp) and by a source of continuum spectrum. The latter is usually represented either by a halogen lamp or a set of light-emitting diodes, which provide illumination of approximately uniform intensity over the wavelength interval from 350 to 900 nm. The adapter is used for observations with SCORPIO-2 multimode focal reducer.

We present the results of the long-term (20-year period, from 1996 to 2015) optical spectral monitoring of the Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 7469. The variation in the light-curves of the broad He II λ4686A Hβ and Hα lines, and the continuum at 5100A and 6300A have been explored. The maximum of activity was in 1998, and the variability in the continuum and lines seems to have two periods of around 1200 and 2600 days, however these periodicities should be taken with caution because of the red-noise. Beside these periods, there are several short-term (1-5 days) flare-like events in the light-curves. There are good correlations between the continuum fluxes and Hα and Hβ line fluxes, but significantly smaller correlation between the He II and continuum. We found that the time-lags between the continuum and broad lines are different for Hβ (~20 l.d.) and Hα (~3 l.d.), and that He II also has a smaller lag (~2-3 l.d.). The Hα and Hβ line profiles show a slight red asymmetry, and the broad line profiles did not changed in the 20-year period. Using the lags and widths of Hα and Hβ we estimated the central black hole mass and found that it is ~(1-6)x$10^7 M_{\odot}$, which is in agreement with previous reverberation estimates.

We present first measurements of the degree of linear polarization of distant comets C/2010 S1 (LINEAR) and C/2010 R1 (LINEAR) at heliocentric distances r= 5.9 - 7.0 AU. Observations were carried out with the SCORPIO-2 focal reducer at the 6-m telescope of the SAO RAS. Both comets showed considerable level of activity beyond a zone where water ice sublimation is negligible (up to 5 AU). Significant spatial variations both in the intensity and polarization are found in both comets. The slope of radial profiles of intensity changes gradually with the distance from the photocenter: from - 0.7 near the nucleus up to about - 1.3 for larger distances (up to 100000 km). The variation in polarization profiles indicates the non uniformity in the polarization distribution over the coma. The polarization degree over the coma gradually increases (in absolute value) with increasing the photocentric distance from of about - 1.9% up to - 3% for comet C/2010 S1 (LINEAR), and from of about - 2.5% up to - 3.5% for comet C/2010 R1 (LINEAR). These polarization values are significantly higher than typical value of the whole coma polarization (-1.5%) for comets at heliocentric distances less than 5 AU. The obtained photometric and polarimetric data are compared with those derived early for other comets at smaller heliocentric distances. Numerical modeling of light scattering characteristics was performed for media composed of particles with different refractive index, shape, and size. The computations were made by using the superposition T-matrix method. We obtained that for comet C/2010 S1 (LINEAR), the dust in the form of aggregates of overall radius R ~ 1.3 μm composed of N = 1000 spherical monomers with radius a = 0.1 μm, refractive index m = 1.65 + i 0.05, allows to obtain a satisfactory agreement between the results of polarimetric observations of comet C/2010 S1 and computations.

Here we present the spectropolarimetric observations of the radio loud active galaxy 3C 390.3 in the period 2009-2014 (24 epochs). The galaxy has been observed with the 6-meter telescope of SAO RAS using the SCORPIO spectropolarimeter. We explore the variability and lags in the polarized light of the continuum and broad H$α$ line. We give the Stokes parameters $Q, U$, degree of linear polarization $P$ and the position angle of the polarization plane, $\varphi$, for 24 epochs.
We find a small lag~(10-40 days) between the unpolarized and polarized continuum that is significantly smaller than the estimated lags for the unpolarized broad emission lines (lag(H$α$)$\sim$138-186 and lag(H$β$)$\sim$60-79 days). This shows that the region of the variable polarized continuum is significantly smaller than the broad line region, indicating that a part of the polarized continuum is coming from the jet. The lag of the polarized light in the H$α$ line (89-156 days) indicates an additional component to the disc one that has an outflowing velocity of $\sim$-1200 km s$^{-1}$. This region seems to depolarize the polarized broad H$α$ line emitted from the disc and scattered in the inner part of the torus.

Spectrophotometric monitoring of distant comet C/2002 VQ94 (LINEAR) was performed with the 6-m telescope of SAO RAS and with the 2.5-m Nordic Optical Telescope between 2008 and 2013. During this period the comet was on the outbound segment of its orbit, between heliocentric distances of 8.36 au and 16.84 au. Analysis of the spectra revealed the presence of the CO$^+$ and N$_2^+$ emissions in the cometary coma at a distance of 8.36 au from the Sun. This distance is larger than ionic emissions have been detected in any previous objects. Only continuum, with no traces of emissions, was detected in the spectrum obtained in 2009 when the comet was at a distance of 9.86 au. From the spectra obtained in 2008, average column densities of 2.04$\times$10$^9$ mol cm$^{-2}$ for N$_2^+$ and 3.26$\times$10$^{10}$ mol cm$^{-2}$ for CO$^+$ were measured in the cometary coma. The derived values correspond to N$_2^+$/CO$^+$=0.06 within the projected slit. The parameter, which is used as an indicator of cometary activity, was measured as 2000 cm in 2008, and 800 cm in 2009 and 2011. The values correspond to dust production rates between 10-20 kg s$^{-1}$, 4-6 kg s$^{-1}$ and 3-5 kg s$^{-1}$ at 8.36, 9.86, and 13.40 au respectively. There is an obvious correlation between the decrease of the dust production rate of the nucleus and the disappearance of the emissions in the spectrum of C/2002 VQ94 (LINEAR) at heliocentric distances greater than 9 au. The colors and size of the nucleus of C/2002 VQ94 (LINEAR) were estimated from the images obtained during the late stage at a heliocentric distance of 16.84 au, when the activity had probable ceased. The B-V and V-R colors were estimated to be 1.07$\pm$0.05 and 0.54$\pm$0.03 respectively. The effective nucleus radius of 48$\pm$2 km is in agreement with the previously published results, obtained from the observations of the comet during its early inactive stage.

Here we present an analysis of spectro-polarimetric observations of type 1.5 AGN Mrk 6, performed with 6m telescope SAO RAN in 12 epochs (2010 -- 2013). Additionally, the inter-stellar mater (ISM) polarization has been observed and its contribution to the AGN spectral polarization is taken into account.
We measured Stokes parameters and determined the polarization parameters in 12 spectra with and without correction for the ISM polarization. We estimated the time lag between the unpolarized and polarized continuum flux variation of about ~2 days, that indicates a compact scattering region which contributes to the polarized continuum variability. The polarization in Hα is complex, showing three prominent components in the BLR, one redshifted around +3000 km/s that corresponds to the red shoulder in Hα, and two blue-shifted around -2000 km/s and -6000 km/s.
We found that the ISM polarization has a very significant influence on the measured AGN polarization parameters. After correcting the observations for the ISM polarization we were able to detect the Keplerian motion in the BLR.
We give a new method for the black hole mass estimation using spectro-polarimetric observation in the line profile, finding the black hole mass in Mrk 6 of $M_{BH} \sim 1.53 \cdot 10^8 M_{\odot}$, that is in a good agreement with reverberation estimates.

We have obtained and analyzed long-slit spectral data for the lenticular galaxy IC 719. In this gas-rich S0 galaxy, its large-scale gaseous disk counterrotates the global stellar disk. Moreover in the IC 719 disk we have detected a secondary stellar component corotating the ionized gas. By using emission-line intensity ratios, we have proved the gas excitation by young stars and so are claiming current star formation, most intense in a ring-like zone at the radius of 10" (1.4 kpc). The oxygen abundance of the gas in the starforming ring is about half of the solar abundance. Since the stellar disk remains dynamically cool, we conclude that smooth prolonged accretion of the external gas from a neighboring galaxy provides urrent building of the thin large-scale stellar disk.

We present the results of spectroscopic observations of three S0-Sa galaxies: NGC338, NGC 3245, and NGC 5440 at the SAO RAS 6-m BTA telescope. The radial distributions of the line-of-sight velocities and radial velocity dispersions of stars and ionized gas were obtained, and rotation curves of galaxies were computed. We construct the numerical dynamic N-body galaxy models with N > 10^6 point masses. The models include three components: a "live" bulge, a collisionless disk, dynamically evolving to the marginally stable state, and a pseudo-isothermal dark halo. The estimates of radial velocities and velocity dispersions of stars obtained from observations are compared with model estimates, projected onto the line of sight. We show that the disks of NGC 5440 and the outer regions of NGC 338 are dynamically overheated. Taking into account the previously obtained observations, we conclude that the dynamic heating of the disk is present in a large number of early-type disk galaxies, and it seems to ensue from the external effects. The estimates of the disk mass and relative mass of the dark halo are given for seven galaxies, observed at the BTA.

The evolution of the central regions of galaxies looks synchronized: the average age of stars in the bulges of all the five galaxies lies in the range of 3--6 Gyr. Four of the five galaxies revealed synchronized bursts of star formation in the nuclei 1--2 Gyr ago. The only galaxy, in which the ages of stellar population in the nucleus and in the bulge coincide (i.e. the nuclear burst of star formation did not take place) is NGC 502, the farthest from the center of the group of all the galaxies studied.

The parameters of the ionized gas in NGC 6946 (in the [NII]6548,6583, H-alpha and [SII]6717,6731 lines) are investigated with the SAO RAS BTA telescope along three positions of the long slit of the SCORPIO focal reducer, passing through a number of large and small cavities of the gaseous disc of the galaxy. Most of these cavities correspond exactly to the cavities in warm dust. We found that everywhere in the direction of NGC 6946 the lines of ionized gas are decomposed into two Gaussians, one of which shows almost constant [SII]/H-alpha and [NII]/H-alpha ratios, as well as an almost constant radial velocity within the measurement errors (about -35 - -50 km/s). This component is in fact the foreground radiation from the diffuse ionized gas of our Galaxy; a similar component is also present in the emission of neutral hydrogen. The analysis of the component of ionized gas, occurring in NGC 6946, has revealed that it shows signs of shock excitation in the cavities of the gaseous disc of the galaxy. It is as well typical for the extraplanar diffuse ionized gas (EDIG), observed in a number of spiral galaxies at their high Z-coordinates. This can most likely be explained by low density of the gas in the NGC 6946 disc (with the usual photoionization) inside the cavities, due to what we see the spectral features of the EDIG gas of NGC 6946, projected onto them. In the absence of separation of ionized gas into two components by radial velocities, there is an increasing contribution to the integral line parameters by the EDIG of our Galaxy when the gas density in NGC 6946 decreases, which explains some strange results, obtained in the previous studies. The morphology of warm dust, visible in the infrared range and HI is almost the same. The shock excitation of the ionized gas is detected also in the smallest holes, well distinguishable only in the IR images.

On our deep images obtained at the Russian 6-m telescope we have detected elongated tidal envelopes belonging to satellites debris with a surface R-band brightness about 25-26.5 mag/arcsec^2. These structures are invisible in Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) pictures because of their photometric limit. We found that 35 per cent of the sample of isolated galaxies has undergone merging during the last 0.5-1 Gyr. Our results suggest that statistic studies based on popular imaging surveys (SDSS or Second Palomar Observatory Sky Survey (POSS-II)) can lead to underestimation of the fraction of minor mergers among galaxies with active nuclei (AGN). This fact impacts on statistics and must be taken into consideration when finding connection between minor/major merging or interactions and nucleus activity.

We have studied stellar and gaseous kinematics as well as stellar population properties in the center of the early-type barred galaxy NGC 4245 by means of integral-field spectroscopy. We have found a chemically distinct compact core, more metal-rich by a factor of 2.5 than the bulge, and a ring of young stars with the radius of 300 pc. Current star formation proceeds in this ring; its location corresponds to the inner Lindblad resonance of the large-scale bar. The mean age of stars in the chemically distinct core is significantly younger than the estimate by Sarzi et al. (2005) for the very center, within R=0.25", made with the HST spectroscopy data. We conclude that the `chemically distinct core' is in fact an ancient ultra-compact star forming ring with radius less than 100 pc which marks perhaps the past position of the inner Lindblad resonance. In general, the pattern of star formation history in the center of this early-type gas-poor galaxy confirms the predictions of dynamical models for the secular evolution of a stellar-gaseous disk under the influence of a bar.

We report the results of 3D spectroscopic observations of Mrk 493 (NLS1 galaxy) with the integral-field spectrograph MPFS of the SAO RAS 6-m telescope. The difference in the slope of the optical continuum emission intensity across the nucleus part and an extensive continuum emission region} is detected. The emission in lines (H$α$, H$β$, [OIII], etc.) coincides with a composite nuclear region: an AGN plus a circum-nuclear star-forming ring observed in the HST UV/optical images. The [SII] emission region tends to be up to 1kpc around the center. The H$α$ and H$β$ could be decomposed into three components (broad $\sim$ 2000 km/s. intermediate $\sim$ 700 km/s and narrow $\sim$ 250 km/s). We found that width ($\sim$ 750 km/s) of the Fe II lines correspond to the intermediate component, that may indicate a non-BLR origin of the Fe II lines, or that a large fraction of the Fe II emission arise in the outher parts of the BLR. The weak broad component detected in the H$α$, H$β$ and He$λ$4686 may come from the unresolved central BLR, but also partly produced by violent starburst in the circum-nuclear ring. Moreover, diagnostic diagrams clearly show presence of the HII regions (not a Sy 1 nucleus) in the NLR of Mrk 493.

As a result, we have revealed full-size counterrotating gaseous disks, the one coplanar to the stellar disk in NGC 2551 and the other inclined to the main stellar disk in NGC 5631. We suggest that we observe the early stages of minor-merger events which may be two different stages of the process of lenticular galaxy formation in rather sparse environments.

We have studied the central parts of seven early-type galaxies -- the members of the X-ray-bright galaxy group NGC 80 -- by means of integral-field spectroscopy at the Russian 6m telescope. We searched for signatures of synchronous evolution of the group galaxies. The following results have been obtained. Five galaxies have revealed old stellar populations in the bulges, with the SSP-equivalent ages from 10 to 15 Gyr. A moderate-luminous S0 galaxy IC 1548 demonstrates consequences of recent star formation burst: the SSP-equivalent age of the bulge is 3 Gyr, that of the nucleus -- 1.5 Gyr. It is also in this galaxy that we have found a circumnuclear polar gaseous disk which changes smoothly to counterrotating one at radii larger than 3 arcsec(1 kpc). Probably, IC 1548 had suffered an interaction with external gas accretion which might also provoke the central star formation burst. In the giant E0 galaxy NGC 83 which is projected close to the group center but has a line-of-sight velocity redshifted by 600 km/s with respect to the group systemic velocity, we have observed a compact massive stellar-gaseous disk with the radius of some 2 kpc demonstrating current star formation. Consequently, NGC 83, just as IC 1548, has the young stellar population in the center. We speculate that a small subgroup leaded by NGC 83 is in process of infalling into the old massive group around NGC 80.

On July 28, 2006 the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences recorded the spectrum of a faint meteor. We confidently identify the lines of FeI and MgI, OI, NI and molecular-nitrogen N_2 bands. The entry velocity of the meteor body into the Earth's atmosphere estimated from radial velocity is equal to 300 km/s. The body was several tens of a millimeter in size, like chondrules in carbon chondrites. The radiant of the meteor trajectory coincides with the sky position of the apex of the motion of the Solar system toward the centroid of the Local Group of galaxies. Observations of faint sporadic meteors with FAVOR TV CCD camera confirmed the radiant at a higher than 96% confidence level. We conclude that this meteor particle is likely to be of extragalactic origin. The following important questions remain open: (1) How metal-rich dust particles came to be in the extragalactic space? (2) Why are the sizes of extragalactic particles larger by two orders of magnitude (and their masses greater by six orders of magnitude) than common interstellar dust grains in our Galaxy? (3) If extragalactic dust surrounds galaxies in the form of dust (or gas-and-dust) aureoles, can such formations now be observed using other observational techniques (IR observations aboard Spitzer satellite, etc.)? (4) If inhomogeneous extragalactic dust medium with the parameters mentioned above actually exists, does it show up in the form of irregularities on the cosmic microwave background (WMAP etc.)?

The characteristics of ionized and HI gas in the peculiar star/cluster complex in NGC 6946, obtained with the 6-m telescope (BTA) SAO RAS, the Gemini North telescope, and the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT), are presented. The complex is unusual as hosting a super star cluster, the most massive known in an apparently non-interacting giant galaxy. It contains a number of smaller clusters and is bordered by a sharp C-shaped rim. We found that the complex is additionally unusual in having peculiar gas kinematics. The velocity field of the ionized gas reveals a deep oval minimum, ~300 pc in size, centered 7" east of the supercluster. The Vr of the ionized gas in the dip center is 100 km/s lower than in its surroundings, and emission lines within the dip appear to be shock excited. This dip is near the center of an HI hole and a semi-ring of HII regions. The HI (and less certainly, HII) velocity fields reveal expansion, with the velocity reaching ~30 km/s at a distance about 300 pc from the center of expansion, which is near the deep minimum position. The super star cluster is at the western rim of the minimum. The sharp western rim of the whole complex is plausibly a manifestation of a regular dust arc along the complex edge. Different hypotheses about the complex and the Vr depression origins are discussed, including a HVC/dark mini-halo impact, a BCD galaxy merging, and a gas outflow due to release of energy from the supercluster stars.

We found emissions of gas from the active Sy 2 nucleus in the centre and also from the HII regions in a spiral structure and a circumnuclear region. The gas kinematics shows regular non-circular motions in the wide range of galactocentric distances from 500 pc up to 15 kpc. The maps of inward and outward radial motions of the ionized gas was constructed. We found that the narrow line region (NLR) is composed of at least two (probably three) kinematically separated regions. We detect a stratification in the NLR of Mrk 533 with the outflow velocity ranging from 20-50 km/s to 600-700 km/s, respectively, on the radial distances of ~2.5 and ~1.5 kpc. The maximal outflow velocity comes from the nucleus and corresponds to the position of the observed radio structure, which is assumed to be created in an approaching jet. We suggest that these ionized gas outflows are triggered by the radio jet intrusion in an ambient medium.

In Part I of this paper we described an equilibrium model of a jet in the gravitational field corresponding to the rigid-rotation region of the galactic disk. We used linear stability analysis to find the waveguide-resonance instability of internal gravity waves due to the superreflection of these waves from the jet boundary. In this part of the paper, we perform nonlinear numerical 2D and 3D simulations of the development of this instability. We show that the shocks produced by this instability in the ambient medium of the jet are localized inside a cone with a large opening angle and are capable of producing features that are morphologically similar to those observed in galaxies with active nuclei (NGC 5252 for example).

We discuss causes of the formation of the observed kinematics and morphology of cones of ionized matter in the neighborhood of the nuclei of Seyfert galaxies. The results of linear stability analysis of an optically thin conic jet where radiation cooling and gravity play an important part are reported. The allowance for radiation cooling is shown to result in strong dam** of all acoustic modes and to have insignificant effect on unstable surface Kelvin--Helmholtz modes. In the case of waveguide--resonance internal gravity modes radiative cooling suppresses completely the instability of waves propagating away from the ejection source and, vice versa, reduces substantially the growth time scale of unstable sourceward propagating modes. The results obtained can be used to study ionization cones in Seyfert galaxies with radio jets. In particular, our analysis shows that surface Kelvin--Helmholtz modes and volume harmonics are capable of producing regular features observed in optical emission-line images of such galaxies.
