In this paper, we establish the global existence and uniqueness of solution to $2$-D inhomogeneous incompressible Navier-Stokes equations \eqref{1.2} with initial data in the critical spaces. Precisely, under the assumption that the initial velocity $u_0$ in $L^2 \cap\dot B^{-1+\frac{2}{p}}_{p,1}$ and the initial density $ρ_0$ in $L^\infty$ and having a positive lower bound, which satisfies $1-ρ_0^{-1}\in \dot B^{\frac{2}λ}_{λ,2}\cap L^\infty,$ for $p\in[2,\infty[$ and $λ\in [1,\infty[$ with $\frac{1}{2}<\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}λ\leq1,$ the system \eqref{1.2} has a global solution. The solution is unique if $p=2.$ With additional assumptions on the initial density in case $p>2,$ we can also prove the uniqueness of such solution. In particular, this result improves the previous work in \cite{AG2021} where $u_{0}$ belongs to $\dot{B}_{2,1}^{0}$ and $ρ_0^{-1}-1$ belongs to $\dot{ B}_{\frac{2}{\varepsilon},1}^{\varepsilon}$, and we also remove the assumption that the initial density is close enough to a positive constant in \cite{DW2023} yet with additional regularities on the initial density here.

Defects in atomically thin materials can drive new functionalities and expand applications to multifunctional systems that are monolithically integrated. An ability to control formation of defects during the synthesis process is an important capability to create practical deployment opportunities. Molybdenum disulfide (MoS$_2$), a two-dimensional (2D) semiconducting material harbors intrinsic defects that can be harnessed to achieve tuneable electronic, optoelectronic, and electrochemical devices. However, achieving precise control over defect formation within monolayer MoS$_2$, while maintaining the structural integrity of the crystals remains a notable challenge. Here, we present a one-step, in-situ defect engineering approach for monolayer MoS$_2$ using a pressure dependent chemical vapour deposition (CVD) process. Monolayer MoS$_2$ grown in low-pressure CVD conditions (LP-MoS$_2$) produces sulfur vacancy (Vs) induced defect rich crystals primarily attributed to the kinetics of the growth conditions. Conversely, atmospheric pressure CVD grown MoS$_2$ (AP-MoS$_2$) passivates these Vs defects with oxygen. This disparity in defect profiles profoundly impacts crucial functional properties and device performance. AP-MoS$_2$ shows a drastically enhanced photoluminescence, which is significantly quenched in LP-MoS$_2$ attributed to in-gap electron donor states induced by the Vs defects. However, the n-do** induced by the Vs defects in LP-MoS$_2$ generates enhanced photoresponsivity and detectivity in our fabricated photodetectors compared to the AP-MoS$_2$ based devices. Defect-rich LP-MoS$_2$ outperforms AP-MoS$_2$ as channel layers of field-effect transistors (FETs), as well as electrocatalytic material for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). This work presents a single-step CVD approach for in-situ defect engineering in monolayer MoS$_2$ and presents a pathway to control defects in other monolayer material systems.

This is especially true in the high conditions expected during the future high-luminosity phase of the LHC (HL-LHC) where the number of interactions per beam crossing will increase by a factor of five. Deep learning algorithms have been successfully applied to this task for offline applications. However, their study in hardware-based trigger applications has been limited . In this paper, we study different algorithms for two different steps of tracking and show that such algorithms can be run on field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).

Single photon emitters (SPEs) in hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) are promising candidates for quantum light generation. Despite this, techniques to control the formation of hBN SPEs down to the monolayer limit are yet to be demonstrated. Recent experimental and theoretical investigations have suggested that the visible wavelength single photon emitters in hBN originate from carbon-related defects. Here we demonstrate a simple strategy for controlling SPE creation during the chemical vapor deposition growth of monolayer hBN via regulating surface carbon concentration. By increasing surface carbon concentration during hBN growth, we observe increases in carbon do** levels by 2.4 fold for B-C bonds and 1.6 fold for N-C bonds. For the same samples we observe an increase in SPE density from 0.13 to 0.30 emitters/um2. Our simple method enables the reliable creation of hBN SPEs in monolayer samples for the first time, opening the door to advanced 2D quantum state engineering.

Bulk amorphous materials have been studied extensively and are widely used, yet their atomic arrangement remains an open issue. Although they are generally believed to be Zachariasen continuous random networks, recent experimental evidence favours the competing crystallite model in the case of amorphous silicon. In two-dimensional materials, however, the corresponding questions remain unanswered. Here we report the synthesis, by laser-assisted chemical vapour deposition, of centimetre-scale, free-standing, continuous and stable monolayer amorphous carbon, topologically distinct from disordered graphene. Unlike in bulk materials, the structure of monolayer amorphous carbon can be determined by atomic-resolution imaging. Extensive characterization by Raman and X-ray spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy reveals the complete absence of long-range periodicity and a threefold-coordinated structure with a wide distribution of bond lengths, bond angles, and five-, six-, seven- and eight-member rings. The ring distribution is not a Zachariasen continuous random network, but resembles the competing (nano)crystallite model. We construct a corresponding model that enables density-functional-theory calculations of the properties of monolayer amorphous carbon, in accordance with observations. Direct measurements confirm that it is insulating, with resistivity values similar to those of boron nitride grown by chemical vapour deposition. Free-standing monolayer amorphous carbon is surprisingly stable and deforms to a high breaking strength, without crack propagation from the point of fracture. The excellent physical properties of this stable, free-standing monolayer amorphous carbon could prove useful for permeation and diffusion barriers in applications such as magnetic recording devices and flexible electronics.

Luminescent defect-centers in hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) have emerged as a promising 2D-source of single photon emitters (SPEs) due to their high brightness and robust operation at room temperature. The ability to create such emitters with well-defined optical properties is a cornerstone towards their integration into on-chip photonic architectures. Here, we report an effective approach to fabricate hBN single photon emitters (SPEs) with desired emission properties in two isolated spectral regions via the manipulation of boron diffusion through copper during atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition (APCVD)--a process we term gettering. Using the gettering technique we deterministically place the resulting zero-phonon line (ZPL) between the regions 550-600 nm or from 600-650 nm, paving the way for hBN SPEs with tailored emission properties across a broad spectral range. Our ability to control defect formation during hBN growth provides a simple and cost-effective means to improve the crystallinity of CVD hBN films, and lower defect density making it applicable to hBN growth for a wide range of applications. Our results are important to understand defect formation of quantum emitters in hBN and deploy them for scalable photonic technologies.

However, they are still limited by their speed, sensing capabilities and actuation mechanism. Hence, their usage have been restricted in highly dynamic gras** tasks. This paper presents a soft robotic gripper with tunable bistable properties for sensor-less dynamic gras**. The bistable mechanism allows us to store arbitrarily large strain energy in the soft system which is then released upon contact. The mechanism also provides flexibility on the type of actuation mechanism as the gras** and sensing phase is completely passive. Theoretical background behind the mechanism is presented with finite element analysis to provide insights into design parameters. Finally, we experimentally demonstrate sensor-less dynamic gras** of an unknown object within 0.02 seconds, including the time to sense and actuate.

The performance of superconducting radiofrequency (SRF) cavities used for particle accelerators depends on two characteristic material parameters: field of first flux entry $H_{entry}$ and pinning strength. The former sets the limit for the maximum achievable accelerating gradient, while the latter determines how efficiently flux can be expelled related to the maximum achievable quality factor. In this paper, a method based on muon spin rotation ($μ$SR) is developed to probe these parameters on samples. It combines measurements from two different spectrometers, one being specifically built for these studies and samples of different geometries. It is found that annealing at 1400°C virtually eliminates all pinning. Such an annealed substrate is ideally suited to measure $H_{entry}$ of layered superconductors, which might enable accelerating gradients beyond bulk niobium technology.

In this paper, we prove the global existence of smooth solutions to the three-dimensional incompressible magneto-hydrodynamical system with initial data close enough to the equilibrium state, $(e_3,0).$ Compared with the the previous works \cite{XLZMHD1, XZ15}, here we present a new Lagrangian formulation of the system, which is a damped wave equation and which is non-degenerate only in the direction of the initial magnetic field. Furthermore, we remove the admissible condition on the initial magnetic field, which was required in \cite{XLZMHD1, XZ15}. By using Frobenius Theorem and anisotropic Littlewood-Paley theory for the Lagrangian formulation of the system, we achieve the global $L^1$ in time Lipschwitz estimate of the velocity field, which allows us to conclude the global existence of solutions to this system. In the case when the initial magnetic field is a constant vector, the large time decay rate of the solution is also obtained.

In particular, this allows us to work in the frame of Besov space with negative regularity indices and this fact is particularly important when the initial data are strong oscillating.
