In this paper, we present an application of the Shannon entropy in the case of the planar (non-restricted) four-body problem. Specifically, the Kepler-60 extrasolar system is being investigated with a primary interest in the resonant configuration of the planets that exhibit a chain of mean-motion commensurabilities with the ratios 5:4:3. In the dynamical maps provided, the Shannon entropy is utilized to explore the general structure of the phase space, while, based on the time evolution of the entropy, we determine also the extent and rate of the chaotic diffusion as well as the characteristic times of stability for the planets. Two cases are considered: (i) the pure Laplace resonance when the critical angles of the 2-body resonances circulate and that of the 3-body resonance librates; and (ii) the chain of two 2-body resonances when all the critical angles librate. Our results suggest that case (ii) is the more favourable configuration but we state too that, in either case, the relevant resonance plays an important role to stabilize the system. The derived stability times are no shorter than $10^8$ yrs in the central parts of the resonances.

In the studied axisymmetric case of the central four-body problem, the axis of symmetry is defined by two unequal-mass bodies, while the other two bodies are situated symmetrically with respect to this axis and have equal masses. Here, we consider a special case of the problem and assume that three of the masses are equal. Using a recently found analytical solution of the general case, we formulate the equations of condition for three equal masses analytically and solve them numerically. A complete description of the problem is given by providing both the coordinates and masses of the bodies. We show furthermore how the three-equal-mass solutions are related to the general case in the coordinate space. The physical aspects of the configurations are also studied and discussed.

The identification of mean motion resonances in exoplanetary systems or in the Solar System might be cumbersome when several planets and large number of smaller bodies are to be considered. Based on the geometrical meaning of the resonance variable, an efficient method is introduced and described here, by which mean motion resonances can be easily find without any a priori knowledge on them. The efficiency of this method is clearly demonstrated by using known exoplanets engaged in mean motion resonances, and also some members of different families of asteroids and Kuiper-belt objects being in mean motion resonances with Jupiter and Neptune respectively.

This paper is devoted to the study of secondary resonances and the stability of the Lagrangian point L4 in the spatial restricted three-body problem for moderate mass ratios (mu), meaning that mu is smaller than 0.0045. However, we concentrated our investigations on small mass ratios for mu smaller than 0.001, which represent the mass ratios for stable configurations of tadpole orbits in the Solar system. The stability is investigated by numerical methods, computing stability maps in different parameter planes. We started investigating the mass of the secondary; from Earth-mass bodies up to Jupiter-mass bodies. In addition we changed the orbital elements (eccentricity and inclination) of the secondary and Trojan body. For this parameter space we found high order secondary resonances, which are present for various inclinations. To determine secondary resonances we used Rabe's equation and the frequency analysis. In addition we investigated the stability in and around these secondary resonances.

In the spatial circular restricted three-body problem librational motion around the Lagrangian points $L_4$ and $L_5$ exists up to high inclinations of the massless object. We report the results of numerical investigations on the stability of this librational motion for systematic variations in the inclination of the Trojan and the mass-ratio $μ$ of the two massive bodies. We show that stable motion prevails for inclinations below 60 degrees and mass-ratios $μ< 0.04$ for typical integration times up to $10^6$ revolution periods. At even higher mass-ratios -- beyond the critical mass-ratio for the planar case -- stable orbits were found to exist for up to $10^7$ periods at moderate inclinations. We extracted the librational frequencies on a grid in the parameter space from the Fourier spectra and traced their variation. Several resonances between the short and long period librational frequency as well as the vertical frequency lie inside the investigated region. The application of the Lyapunov characteristic indicator and spectral number methods also reveals the chaotic regions. This simple model is equally applicable in the Solar system for low mass ratios for Trojans of the planets, as well as to Trojan-type exoplanets in binary star systems at high mass-ratios.

The stability of the Lagrangian point $L_4$ is investigated in the elliptic restricted three-body problem by using Floquet's theory. Stable and unstable domains are determined in the parameter plane of the mass parameter and the eccentricity by computing the characteristic exponents. Frequencies of motion around $L_4$ have been determined both in the stable and unstable domains and fitting functions for the frequencies are derived depending on the mass parameter and the eccentricity. Resonances between the frequencies are studied in the whole parameter plane. It is shown that the 1:1 resonances are not restricted only to single curves but extend to the whole unstable domain. In the unstable domains longer escape times of the test particle from the neighbourhood of $L_4$ are related to certain resonances, but changing the parameters the same resonances may lead to faster escape.

The size distribution of the stability region around the Lagrangian point L4 is investigated in the elliptic restricted three-body problem as the function of the mass parameter and the orbital eccentricity of the primaries. It is shown that there are minimum zones in the size distribution of the stability regions, and these zones are connected with secondary resonances between the frequencies of librational motions around L4. The results can be applied to hypothetical Trojan planets for predicting values of the mass parameter and the eccentricity for which such objects can be expected or their existence is less probable.

In the near future there will be launched space missions (e.g. COROT, KEPLER), designed to detect Earth-like extrasolar planets. The orbital elements of these (still hypothetic) planets will contain some uncertainties, that can only be eliminated by careful dynamical investigations of the hosting planetary systems. The proportion of extrasolar planetary systems with one known giant planet is high ($\sim 90 %$), therefore as a first step we have investigated the possible existence of terrestrial planets in these systems. In this paper a development of a stability catalogue of the habitable zones of exoplanetary systems is reported. This catalogue is formed by a series of stability maps, which can help to establish, where Earth-like planets could exist in extrasolar planetary systems having one giant planet. After a description of the dynamical model and the numerical methods, details of the stability maps are discussed. An application of the stability catalogue to 15 known exoplanetary systems is also shown, and a characterization of the stability properties of their habitable zones is given.

With the newly discovered two small satellites S/2005 P1 and S/2005 P2, the Pluto--Charon system can be considered as the first known binary system in which celestial bodies move in P-type orbits. It is shown that the two satellites are in the stable region of the phase space and their origin by capture is unlikely. Also the large mass parameter allows to regard the satellites as a model of a new class of exoplanets orbiting around stellar binary systems.
