We report results of optical identification and multi-wavelength study of a new polar-type magnetic cataclysmic variable (MCV), SRGA J213151.5+491400, discovered by Spectrum Roentgen-Gamma ($SRG$) observatory in the course of the all-sky survey. We present optical data from telescopes in Turkey (RTT-150 and T100 at the TÜBITAK National Observatory), and in Russia (6-m and 1-m at SAO RAS), together with the X-ray data obtained with $ART-XC$ and $eROSITA$ telescopes aboard $SRG$ and the $NICER$ observatory. We detect SRGA J213151.5+491400 in a high state in 2020 (17.9 mag) that decreases about 3 mag into a low state (21 mag) in 2021. We find only one significant period using optical photometric time series analysis which reveals the white dwarf spin/orbital period to be 0.059710(1) days (85.982 min). The long slit spectroscopy in the high state yields a power law continuum increasing towards the blue with a prominent He II line along with the Balmer line emissions with no cyclotron humps; consistent with MCV nature. Doppler Tomography confirms the polar nature revealing ballistic stream accretion along with magnetic stream during the high state. These characteristics show that the new source is a polar-type MCV. $SRG$ $ART-XC$ detections yield an X-ray flux of (4.0-7.0)$\times$10$^{-12}$ erg cm$^2$ s$^{-1}$ in the high state. $eROSITA$ detects a dominating hot plasma component (kT$_{\rm{max}}$ $>$ 21 keV in the high state) declining to (4.0-6.0)$\times$10$^{-13}$ erg cm$^2$ s$^{-1}$ in 2021 (low state). The $NICER$ data obtained in the low state reveal a two-pole accretor showing a soft X-ray component at (6-7)$σ$ significance with a blackbody temperature of 15-18 eV. A soft X-ray component has never been detected for a polar in the low state before.

Abstract:
This study aims at timing the eclipses of the binary star TU UMi. The times of minima are taken from the literature, from our observations in April 2004 and from TESS observations between 2019 and 2022. The orbital period analysis of the system indicates that there is a cyclic oscillation with an amplitude of 0.0081d and a period of 9.03 yr, accompanied by a continuous decrease at a rate of…

The times of minima are taken from the literature, from our observations in April 2004 and from TESS observations between 2019 and 2022. The orbital period analysis of the system indicates that there is a cyclic oscillation with an amplitude of 0.0081d and a period of 9.03 yr, accompanied by a continuous decrease at a rate of $dP/dt =-1.12 \times 10^{-7}\,\mathrm{d}\, \mathrm{yr}^{-1}$. We study the secular evolution of the orbital period of the system and the possibility of the existence of a third companion or the magnetic activity cycle of the primary component in the system.

XY Ari is one of the few known eclipsing intermediate polars. We present results from a detailed analysis of an unpublished archival observation using XMM-Newton EPIC pn and MOS data in a quiescent state of XY Ari. The X-ray orbital modulation and spin pulse variations were investigated for energy dependent modulations in different energy bands. The broad orbital modulation observed with various observations was confirmed with XMM-Newton at hard X-ray (>1.6 keV). The EPIC light curves folded at the spin phases show a double peak profile as expected from two pole accretion. The pulse profile is found to be energy dependent. Hardness ratio variations and energy modulation depth during spin modulation can be explained by photoelectric absorption. The simultaneously fitted EPIC spectra with CEVMKL model yield maximum plasma temperature of $28^{+3.1}_{-2.9}$ keV with an iron abundance $\mathrm{Fe}/\mathrm{Fe}_\odot=0.37^{+0.06}_{-0.05}$. We find two intrinsic partial covering absorption columns of $6.2^{+1.0}_{-0.9} \times 10^{22}$ and $105.3^{+35.4}_{-30.4} \times 10^{22} \,\mathrm{cm^{-2}}$ with covering fractions of $0.53^{+0.05}_{-0.04}$, $0.41^{+0.14}_{-0.13}$ respectively. In addition, a Gaussian emission line at $6.43^{+0.01}_{-0.02}$ keV with an equivalent width of $51^{+12}_{-10}$ eV is required to account for fluorescent emission from neutral iron. The X-ray luminosity of the source is $4.2 \times 10^{32} \,\mathrm{erg \,s^{-1}}$ in the 0.2-10.0 keV energy band.

This paper presents a new model of North Polar Coronal Hole (NPCH) to study dissipation/propagation of MHD waves. We investigate the effects of the isotropic viscosity and heat conduction on the propagation characteristics of the MHD waves in NPCH. We first model NPCH by considering the differences in radial as well as in the direction perpendicular to the line of sight (\textit{los}) in temperature, particle number density and non-thermal velocities between plumes and interplume lanes for the specific case of \ion{O}{VI} ions. This model includes parallel and perpendicular (to the magnetic field) heat conduction and viscous dissipation. Next, we derive the dispersion relations for the MHD waves in the case of absence and presence of parallel heat conduction. In the case of absence of parallel heat conduction, we find that MHD wave dissipation strongly depends on the viscosity for modified acoustic and Alfven waves. The energy flux density of acoustic waves varies between $10^{4.7}$ and $10^7 \,erg\,cm^{-2}\,s^{-1}$ while the energy flux density of Alfven waves turned out to be between $ 10^6-10^{8.6} \,erg\,cm^{-2}\,s^{-1}$. But, solutions of the magnetoacustic waves show that the parallel heat conduction introduce anomalous dispersion to the NPCH plasma wherein the group velocity of waves exceeds the speed of light in vacuum. Our results suggests all these waves may provide significant source for the observed preferential accelerating and heating of \ion{O}{VI} ions, in turn coronal plasma heating and an extra accelerating agent for fast solar wind in NPCH.

The optical CCD photometric observations of these objects were performed at the TÜBİTAK National Observatory (Turkey) between February 2006 and March 2009. We aimed to detect short time scale orbital variability arisen from hot-spot modulation, flickering structures which occur from rapid fluctuations of material transferring from red star to white dwarf and orbital period changes for selected short-period (P<4h) CVs at quiescence. Results obtained from eclipse timings and light curves morphology related to white dwarf stars, accretion disks and hot-spots are discussed for each system. Analysis of the short time coverage of data, obtained for SDSS J1227+5139 indicates a cyclical period change arisen from magnetic activity on the secondary star. Photometric period of SDSS J1607+3623 is derived firstly in this study, while for the other five systems light elements are corrected using the previous and new photometric observations. The nature of SDSS J1457+5148 is not precisely revealed that its light curve shows any periodicity that could be related to the orbital period.
