More on Landau's theorem and Conjugacy Classes
Abstract: Let $p$ be a prime. We construct a function $f$ on the natural numbers such that $f(x) \to \infty$ as $x \to \infty$ and $k_{p}(G)+k_{p'}(G)\geq f(|G|)$ for all finite groups $G$. Here $k_{p}(G)$ denotes the number of conjugacy classes of nontrivial $p$-elements in $G$ and $k_{p'}(G)$ denotes the number of conjugacy classes of elements of $G$ whose orders are coprime to $p$. This is a variation of… ▽ More

A new lower bound for the number of conjugacy classes
Abstract: In 2003, Héthelyi and Külshammer proposed that if $G$ is a finite group and $p$ is a prime dividing the group order, then $k(G)\geq 2\sqrt{p-1}$, and they proved this conjecture for solvable $G$ and showed that it is sharp for those primes $p$ for which $\sqrt{p-1}$ is an integer. This initiated a flurry of activity, leading to many generalizations and variations of the result; in particular, toda… ▽ More

All finite solvable groups satisfy the Taketa inequality
Abstract: In this paper, we prove that all finite solvable groups satisfy the Isaacs-Seitz conjecture namely the derived lenght of a finite solvable group G is less than or equal to the number of distinct irreducible complex character degrees of G.
